Content

The Systemic Structural Constellations approach is developed by Insa Sparrer and Matthias Varga von Kibéd after 1989 build on a range of group simulation procedures, including the Family Constellations of Bert Hellinger. Above all, it is to Hellinger that we owe our thanks for the original lean and sparse form of the constellation (which contain no gesticulations or props) and insights into forms of systemic principles.

On the other hand, Systemic Structural Constellations were also influenced by many of Virginia Satir’s procedures: by her image of man and her therapeutic attitude, as well as the constructivist approaches, such as those of the Heidelberg School (H. Stierlin, G. Weber, G. Schmidt) in their theoretical approaches.
Systemic Structural Constellations are a method of translating and extending the fundamental principles involved in understanding the family system to other systems, for example to conflict mediation, organisations, bodily systems, value systems, internal components, screenplays etc.

They differ from Family Constellations in part in that they are built on a systemic grammar and can be effective simultaneously on different levels, they give primacy to process work and predominantly involve syntactic work in which it is possible to abstain largely from interpretations, which in turn makes “hidden” work possible.

Abstract systemic elements as well as representatives, locations and free elements can be brought into the constellation. This extension also allows temporal and spatial aspects to be factored in.

It is a methodology where groups of people shape and modify the structure and change dynamics of a system. Based on the astonishing ability of representative perception, this method can be used in fields such as therapy, consulting and coaching, mediation, and supervision, as well as to promote creative processes.
